SPOKANE, Wash. — You and your family might soon notice price increases on the day-to-day items you buy at the store due to Trump’s newly announced tariffs.
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced new tariff’s on nearly all U.S. trade partners, including 34% tax on imports from China, 20% on the European Union and a 10% baseline tax on imports from all countries.
The news has left many wondering how the tariffs will impact their wallets.
To help you keep track of how these tariffs will affect your budget, for the next 30 days, 4 News Now will monitor the costs of basic household items to see how prices go up, go down and stay the same.
On April 3, prices on various items included:
1 Gold Pineapple at the grocery store (grown in Mexico) – $4.99 1 Barbie Doll at Walmart (made in Indonesia) – $10.971 plain white t-shirt at Walmart (made in Jordan) – $6.98 1 car light bulb at local auto store (made in China) – $7.99
The place an item is made affects pricing. The t-shirt made in Jordan is now subject to a 20% tariff. If retailers pass that cost onto consumers, the roughly $7 shirt will cost an additional $1.50 for a estimated total of $8.50.
The auto parts store that sells the $7.99 light bulb said that light bulbs have already increased in cost.
4 News Now will check the costs of these same items at the end of April to see if and how the tariffs affect our local goods.
