SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office welcomed a new addition to the force on Tuesday: an electronic storage device sniffing dog.
K9 Hadi is a two-year-old yellow lab trained for both electronic storage detection and therapy or support.
She began her training in Indianapolis, where she spent months learning to detect a chemical compound found in electronic storage devices like thumb drives, cell phones, tablets, computers, hidden cameras and more. The Sheriff’s Office says these devices are often used to hide or store child exploitation material.
K9 Hadi is the first K9 in Spokane County and only seventh in the state who has this type of training.
She will also provide therapy or comfort to victims, deputies and support staff involved in traumatic events or investigations.
K9 Hadi and her partner, Detective Maier recently returned from training and will help communities across Eastern Washington and North Idaho.
