SPOKANE, Wash. – With the WCC conference tournament locked up Tuesday night, Gonzaga has secured a spot in its 26th straight NCAA tournament. Now, the Zags play the waiting game to see who they’ll play in the opening rounds.
Gonzaga beat regular season champions St. Mary’s in Las Vegas. It’s the 22nd time the Zags have won the conference tournament and the 28th consecutive time playing in the title game.
Now, the Zags have to wait while other conferences finish their tournaments to see where they’ll end up in in the first rounds.
As of Wednesday at noon, ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi predicted the Zags would be a seven seed in the Midwest region, facing Drake in the opening rounds in Lexington, Kentucky.
CBS Sports isn’t quite as high on the Zags, predicting them as a nine seed in the Midwest region. That bracket has the Zags facing Creighton in the first game in Lexington.
Bracket Matrix averages some of the top bracketologists. As of Wednesday afternoon, it had Gonzaga as an eight seed, along with Memphis, UConn and Mississippi.
They’ll find out for sure during CBS’s Selection Sunday show, airing at 3:00.
