BOISE, Idaho — The state of Idaho is close to requiring students to learn cursive handwriting.
Senate Bill 1044 is heading to Governor Brad Little’s desk where it could be signed into law.
If signed, the bill would require public schools to teach cursive writing to students. The law says students would need to be proficient by fifth grade.
The law would go into effect July 1, 2025 and start the 2025-2026 school year for all Idaho public schools.
