COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — A Coeur d’Alene has been arrested for multiple thefts over the past several weeks of the over-the-counter supplement, Kratom.
According to Coeur d’Alene police, 40-year-old Nathan Gadberry is suspected of five burglaries of Kratom at three businesses.
Kratom is an over-the-counter supplement some believe can treat opioid withdrawals, but, according to the Mayo Clinic, it is unsafe, ineffective, and possibly addictive.
Police say Gadberry would ask to purchase Kratom before leaving without paying. In other incidents, he’s accused of taking the drug directly from behind the counter including breaking into a locked case and stealing $2,000 worth of product.
Detectives were able to identify Gadberry by with the help of the public, and he was located and arrested. Police were also able to recover some of the stolen Kratom at his home.
Gadberry faces two counts of grand theft, two counts of burglary, and multiple misdemeanors. He’s been booked into the Kootenai County Jail.
