SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A one-year-old boy is expected to survive a fentanyl overdose in Spokane Valley Wednesday, and the mother has been arrested.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on 10th Avenue near Bowdish Road around 9:30 a.m.
The caller told 911 the baby got ahold of fentanyl and was turning blue. The baby was given two doses of Narcan, and the caller was guided through CPR by the 911 operator.
SCSO says the baby was breathing and responsive by the time first responders arrived.
According to the sheriff’s office, the baby’s mother, 35-year-old Samantha Anderson, told SCSO she had smoked fentanyl the previous evening and had the foil used in her purse.
At some point, the baby got ahold of the foil and sucked on it. A few minutes later, he was unresponsive.
The baby was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive.
Anderson was arrested for reckless endangerment and Child Protective Services was notified.
