SPOKANE, Wash. — A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon for allegedly attempting to rob a bank in south Spokane.
Spokane police arrested 33-year-old Cody L. Burgess following a call from a bank near South Grand Boulevard and East 30th Avenue.
According to bank employees, the suspect entered the bank wearing a ski mask but did not show a weapon or make any demands before quickly leaving. The bank manager provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
SPD says officers were already in the area responding to a different 911 call about a man possibly casing another bank nearby.
SPD said the vehicle was found abandoned shortly after the suspect sped off. Additional reports say the suspect threw away clothes and a weapon while running.
The weapon was later determined to be a replica BB gun.
Burgess was located in the backyard of a nearby home and arrested without incident.
He was booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of first-degree robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and second-degree criminal trespass.
Burgess made his first appearance on Thursday afternoon. According to record, Burgess has 23 criminal convictions.
Commissioner Rugel set his bond at $75,000.
His arraignment was set for March 18, at 9 a.m.
