SPOKANE, Wash. — A woman whose baby overdosed on fentanyl Wednesday morning had just left drug rehab in January 2025, according to prosecutors in Spokane County District Court.
Samantha Anderson made her first appearance, pleading not guilty to reckless endangerment with domestic violence Thursday afternoon.
She was arrested after deputies said her one-year-old boy got ahold of foil in her purse that had fentanyl residue on it.

In court Thursday, a judge noted that she bought and used fentanyl Tuesday night, and put the used foil in her purse.
Wednesday morning, she was in the kitchen, and her purse and son were both in the living room.
At one point, she noticed he wasn’t moving, and his lips had turned blue.
She told deputies she gave him two doses of naloxone, and the baby became responsive again by the time first responders arrived.
It was revealed in court Thursday that Anderson had several previous drug convictions and failures to appear in court in her history.
The judge set bail at $50,000, noting she “almost killed her child.”
Anderson’s next court date was scheduled for March 13 at 1:30 p.m.
