SPOKANE, Wash. — New information from court documents sheds light on the motive for a stabbing at the Downtowner Motel Monday morning in downtown Spokane.
According to a police affidavit of facts filed in Spokane County Superior Court, a man living at the motel had his front door open while cooking breakfast.
The man told police he saw Lee Myers in the hall, picking up discarded, smoked cigarettes and trying to light them to smoke the remaining tobacco that was left.
At one point, the victim told police Myers walked through his opened door without permission, and he tried to push Myers back out into the hall.
Officers said Myers then pulled a large knife from his hip and poked the victim in the stomach. As the victim reached for a phone to call the police, he said Myers lunged at him again and slashed him in the stomach, arm and neck.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of his wounds.
Myers made his first appearance on this case in court Tuesday. Commissioner Eugene Cruz set bail at $100,000. His next court date was scheduled for March 18 at 9:00 a.m.
