SPOKANE, Wash. — Spring is still three weeks away, but in the world of weather statistics, this past Friday was the last day of winter.
Since the equinoxes and solstices of the seasons are on different days each year, breaking up the meteorological seasons into three-month chunks makes it easier to keep track of.
So how did Spokane fare during the three coldest months of the year?
Snowfall: 26.3″
Average: 33.9″
Snowfall the past three months is tied exactly with the amount of snow Spokane got last meteorological winter. Both are the lowest snow amounts since the winter of 2014-15.
Average Temperature: 30.7°
Normal: 29.7°
Temperatures were above average, but less than last year when Spokane was in the grip of El Niño. The fourth-coldest February in the last 30 years kept this winter from being one of the mildest we’ve seen in a long time. December was the 14th warmest since 1881, while January temperatures were near the 30-year average for Spokane.
We’re off to a spring-like start to the weather in March so far. Check out our latest forecast HERE.
