SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Spokane County is in the process of purchasing and redoing 8 acres of land near Fish Lake just off Cheney-Spokane Road.
This area would add to the county’s already established Fish Lake Regional Park.
“There’s a lot of families in this area so having more space for the kids to play would be pretty cool,” said Corbin Gilmore.
The people who currently use Fish Lake would like to see the county add a park, newer trails and cleaner facilities with this property purchase.
The county agrees. Officials have been working to buy the property from the Myers family.
“In the next year, we are planning to do an updated master plan,” said Spokane County parks and recreation director Doug Chase. “The community helps us develop a vision for how we may renovate the existing park and include this additional land.”
The county says with the growing number of people using the park, it’s important to have a big enough space for everyone to enjoy.
“I’m amazed every year by how many more folks have and continue to discover and visit our parks. We really want to step up and be able to deliver the service amenities they would like to see,” Chase said.
The county hopes to finalize this deal in the next few months and by the end of the year, begin working with the community on what they want to see at the new and improved park.
