SPOKANE, Wash. — Mayor Lisa Brown signed two ordinances aimed at making downtown Spokane cleaner and safer on Monday.
One of the signed ordinances creates an Alcohol Impact Area downtown and bans the sale of personal alcohol containers after midnight.
The other ordinance establishes a Community Health Impact Area, banning the sale of pipes, foil and other drug paraphernalia, unless stores also provide Narcan for free.
Both ordinances passed in Spokane City Council 6-0 in early February.
For the first six months, both ordinances will be voluntary for local businesses to participate in. After the six-month period, the city will present its findings to the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board.
