GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — An inmate found dead in the Grant County Jail died of sepsis due to peritonitis.
31-year-old Richard Lambert was found dead in his jail cell December 31.
Lambert had been booked into the jail for trespassing and obstructing law enforcement.
The Central Basin Investigative Team, comprised of law enforcement from around the area, determined through the death investigation Lambert had crashed his bicycle onto railroad tracks two days prior to his arrest.
CBIT also determined no force was used in Lambert’s arrest nor during his incarceration at the jail.
Two corrections deputies were placed on leave during the investigation, but CBIT did not provide an update on their statuses.
