SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Police released the name of the officer who shot a man in the East Central neighborhood earlier this month.
According to SPD, officer Darren Kelbish shot a man during a struggle between him and police near the Hart Terrace Apartments around noon on February 9. Police were trying to arrest the man for an outstanding warrant.
Preliminary information on the shooting showed the man who was shot was armed at the time.
The man was arrested and provided medical care before being taken to the hospital for treatment.
Officer Kelbish was sworn in at SPD in May of 2024. He worked as an officer in Bellevue before moving to the Spokane area.
Washington State Patrol is currently investigating the shooting.
