SPOKANE, Wash – A man who robbed three Spokane banks in four months and left DNA at the scene of one of the robberies will spend the next eight years in prison.
A federal judge sentenced Dustin Perrin for the crimes.
Perrin admitted to robbing the First Interstate Bank on 57th Avenue in October 2023 and the Numerica Credit Union on South Regal a month later. In January 2024, he robbed the Washington Trust Bank on Indiana.
Federal prosecutors say Perrin left DNA evidence at the scene of the First Interstate robbery, but because he did not leave similar evidence at the other crime scenes, it might have been difficult to obtain guilty verdicts for those cases.
Perrin agreed to plead guilty to all three crimes in exchange for a slightly lower sentence.
Prosecutors noted that all of the bank tellers Perrin robbed were satisfied with the plea agreement “and some of the tellers also expressed relief in the possibility of avoiding the need to testify.”
In the sentencing memorandum, Perrin’s defense attorney wrote that he suffered abuse, trauma, poverty, mental health issues and substance abuse issues his entire life.
The defense noted neglect and harm by his caregivers and several admissions to psychiatric hospitals.
They mention that he experimented with fentanyl “which quickly spiraled out of control.”
A judge ordered Perrin to serve 96 months for each count, but the sentences will be served concurrently. After his prison term, he’ll be on supervised release for three years.
He was ordered to pay nearly $10,000 in restitution.
