GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — Voters showed their support for Moses Lake School District’s multimillion dollar levy on Tuesday night.
The levy passed with 58.7% of voters voting ‘yes,’ with 41.2% voting ‘no.’
The levy will provide the district with roughly $53 million over the next four years.
It is a replacement levy of the last levy voters passed in 2021, which expired at the end of last year.
Per the levy, taxpayers will pay $150 for every $100,000 of assessed property value.
The district currently faces a $20 million budget shortfall. If the levy had failed, many sports and other extracurriculars would have been at risk of being cut.
Those who supported the levy celebrated the win as an expression of the community’s commitment to education.
“This moment is about more than funding – it’s about our community standing together to say our kids deserve better,” MLSD Superintendent Carol Lewis said. “We’ve faced challenges, we’ve had tough conversations, and we’ve made changes to ensure accountability and transparency. This levy is proof that when we listen, adapt and work together, we can achieve incredible things for our students.”
