SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A Spokane Valley park is getting a $2 million makeover.
Construction on Greenacres Park near Boone Avenue and Long Road will begin in March. The upgrades will include six new pickleball courts, two basketball courts, an updated playground and a community garden.
As the population of Spokane Valley continues to rise, the city said it hopes the project will serve the community well.
“It’s also going to serve a broader demographic. So, we’re doing things for kids, making the playground bigger, but we’re also adding athletic facilities. There really aren’t any here right now, so I think we’re going to serve a more diverse population that way,” Parks Director, John Bottelli said.
Parkgoer, Jamal Erdem, said he is glad to hear the park is expanding.
“I like that they’re making more activities for people to do, and I’m assuming that they’re free pickleball courts and free activities for the public is what the government should be doing,” he said.
The park will be closed through July until construction is complete.
