GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — A 35-year-old man is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to the sexual assault of a child.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), Khristian Cardenas pled guilty to two counts of first-degree child molestation.
GCSO said the crimes occurred in April and May 2022 at a home in Moses Lake. The victim, 9, when the crimes occurred, was known to Cardenas.
GCSO said prosecutors recognized the seriousness of the offenses and the potential harm in requiring the child victim to testify about the traumatic and distressing details of the abuse.
Cardenas is facing a sentence between 78 months and life in state prison, followed by lifetime community custody.
Cardenas’s sentencing is scheduled for February.
