SANDPOINT, Idaho — Idaho Fish and Game is asking for information about a bald eagle that was shot and killed near Sandpoint around the holidays.
According to Fish and Game, the eagle was likely killed between Dec. 24 and Dec. 26 near Fisherman Island on Lake Pend Oreille.
The bird was originally reported and found alive, but was later euthanized due to its injuries.
Fish and Game said steel BBs were found in the eagle’s body.
Bald eagles are protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, which prohibits anyone without the proper permits from taking these birds, feathers, nests or eggs.
Anyone who might have seen something or know information related to the shooting is asked to call Conservation Officer Will Fuller at 208-954-3302 or call the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 1-800-632-5999. A Citizens Against Poaching reward may be offered to anyone who significantly helps identify those involved and leads to relevant charges.
