COLFAX, Wash. – Attorneys for the Pullman Police Chief placed on leave pending an investigation asked for a couple more weeks to respond to a protection order filed against him.
A woman filed the protection order last month, citing sexual assault and harassment.
WSP is investigating, but no criminal charges have been filed against Chief Jake Opgenorth.
Opgenorth has been on leave from the department since mid-December and had to surrender his weapons and badge.
Attorneys representing the woman said in court Wednesday that she and Opgenorth had been in a relationship for several years.
Her attorneys want text messages between her and Opgenorth unsealed.
Whitman County Superior Court Judge Gary Libey allowed Opgenorth’s attorney two weeks to prepare for the next hearing on January 22.
