A new camping reservation system launches next week for the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR).
IDPR said the new system, called IDAHO TIME, will better resemble modern reservation systems for hotels and airlines. It will be more user friendly and smartphone friendly while also providing additional information about facilities, features, options and availability. It will also show price drops during low demand periods and show increased prices during high demand periods.
Campsite reservations were initially paused in August of 2024 while the new system was being developed. In order to not override the system, IDPR plans to stagger reservation windows to spread out the most popular vacation weekends across multiple days.
The reservation schedule for next week can be found below:
Monday, January 6: The software goes live at 8 a.m. Mountain Time. Reservations can only be made that start between January 6 and May 31.Tuesday, January 7: Reservations open for trips that start between January 7 and June 30.Wednesday, January 8: Reservations open for trips that start between January 8 and July 31.Thursday, January 9: Reservations open for trips that start between January 9 and August 30.Friday, January 10: You can make reservations that start as late as September 30. Saturday, January 11: The reservation system is fully phased in. You can book reservations starting as late as nine months in advance.
IDPR said during that first week, high-demand areas are expected to fill fast. You may be entered into a waiting room if website traffic is high. During the first week if you are in the waiting room, IDPR said you will not be able to see what campsites are still available. IDPR recommends having backup options in case the site you want is filled.
