SPOKANE, Wash. — As the New Year begins, many people embrace the opportunity to set goals for self-improvement.
According to Pew Research, nearly 79% of individuals who create resolutions focus on health or fitness. However, stepping back into the gym can be a daunting experience for some.
Olito Thompson, Fitness Director at MUV Fitness, advises newcomers to ease into their fitness journeys. He suggests trying light cardio, resistance bands, and easing your way into some machines.
Thompson emphasized that overcoming initial hesitation is key.
“It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been outside of a gym,” Thompson said.
“It’s about taking those first steps, getting inside the gym, and just remembering that when you walk through the doors, you’ve got welcoming faces, people who want to work with you with smiles, and let you know they’re excited to have you.”
Maintaining physical health, according to Thompson, plays a crucial role in preserving youth and independence.
“We want to get everyone to a point where they can approach their fitness during the prime of their life, and then make it to the point where they’re older and can do things on their own without worry,” he explained.
At MUV Fitness, fostering a welcoming atmosphere is a top priority.
“We’re always motivating each other and pushing each other to be great,” Thompson added.
For those seeking a supportive fitness environment, MUV offers a Saturday bootcamp open to all experience levels, including non-members. These circuit training classes are available at the South, North, and Valley locations.
