SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Fire Department (SFD) responded to a fire at a building in downtown Spokane on Wednesday evening.
According to SFD, 62-64 people were displaced after a fire broke out in their building near Spokane Falls Boulevard and Howard Street.
The fire started in the kitchen of an apartment on the 6th floor and was controlled by the building’s sprinkler system.
However, a municipal water valve on the 7th floor burst, showering the entire building with water, causing damage on every floor.
Both businesses on the building’s ground floor, Boo Bradley’s and O’Doherty’s, suffered water damage from the sprinkler system. O’Doherty’s had roughly an inch of water standing on its floor Wednesday night and said they would be closed Thursday.
Boo Radley’s posted on their Instagram account saying they will be closed until further notice.
“We’ll update you as soon as we can, and we hope to see you all very soon,” the post reads.
The Red Cross and SCRAPS were called to assist displaced residents
A Red Cross shelter opened for those who were displaced around 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday at All Saints Lutheran Church (314 S. Spruce Street). Dinner, food, cots and other urgent needs will be addressed.
According to SFD, there were no injuries.
