SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office arrested a blind man deputies say refused to leave a woman’s home and assaulted her early Tuesday morning.
According to SCSO, deputies responded to a home on S. Assembly Road near I-90 Tuesday around 1:30 a.m. for reports of a man knocking on the door of a home.
Deputies identified the man as 33-year-old Darius Denmon. SCSO says Denmon told deputies he was blind, dropped off by a cab, and trying to locate his girlfriend’s house.
Deputies helped Denmon find the correct address, but no one answered the door. Deputies called Denmon’s mom who said she would come pick him up and the deputies left.
Around 3 a.m. deputies were dispatched back to the house for a reported domestic violence incident.
When law enforcement arrived, Denmon was inside the home refusing the come out and throwing things from a broken window. The woman and her children were able to get out and call 911 before being taken the hospital for evaluation.
Denmon eventually surrendered and was taken to jail.
The victim told SCSO Denmon was knocking on her door around 2 a.m. and she told him he was not welcome. Denmon told her he got lost looking for her house and need to use the restroom.
The victim said she let Denmon use the restroom but then he would not leave. Denmon is then suspected of sexually and physically assaulting the woman while his mom was on her way to pick him up.
Deputies say Denmon faces charges of burglary, assault, attempted rape, and other crimes.
Denmon made his first court appearance Wednesday and is being held on $100,000.
