VANCOUVER, Wash. — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is offering people up to $25,000 for information that could lead to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person responsible for setting ballot boxes on fire last month.
The fires happened at multiple ballot boxes in Portland and Vancouver, destroying hundreds of general election ballots.
The FBI said an unknown individual put explosive devices on ballot drop boxes three separate times.
The first attack happened on Oct. 8 between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. in Vancouver. Two more attacks happened on Oct. 28 between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. in both Vancouver and Portland.
The FBI says surveillance footage of the area showed a 2003-2004 Volvo S-60 sedan, dark colored with dark wheels and a light-colored interior. Investigators believe the car was driven by the person responsible for the ballot box fires.
The FBI added that the car doesn’t have a Volvo logo on the front grill. As of October 28, it had a fraudulent temporary Washington license plate on the back and no license plate on the front.
The driver of the car is described as a white male around 30 to 40 years old with thinning hair. Investigators believe he may have experience with metalwork and welding.
