SPOKANE, Wash – A woman scratched and bit a man who was attacking her in broad daylight Thursday afternoon. The same man was previously convicted of attacking a stranger in Kendall Yards.
Spokane Police say it happened in the 400 block of East Spokane Falls Boulevard. That’s in the University District just east of downtown.
A woman called 911 just after noon and said she had just been attacked by a man she didn’t know.
She said the man walked past her and smiled at her. As she was placing items in her car, he came up from behind and grabbed her.
Police say he spun her around and put his hands on her throat, squeezing as he tried to force her to the ground.
She fought back, scratching and clawing at his face and biting his hand.
The man ran off, throwing things on the ground including some of his clothes.
Police found the suspect a few miles away at his home in the 500 Block of East Everett.
When they arrived, they say Michael Trout was carrying a TV out of his home. He was wearing different clothes than what was described by the victim, but he had injuries consistent with how the woman described fending him off.
The arresting officer said he’s familiar with Trout based on previous interactions in downtown Spokane.
Trout was arrested for assault and booked into the Spokane County Jail.
He has previous convictions for assault and vehicle theft.
Previous coverage from 4 News Now shows Trout was charged with attacking a woman in Kendall Yards in 2022.
In that case, police say a woman was out walking when a stranger came up behind her and threw her to the ground.
Court records show he entered a plea and was sentenced in that case, but it’s not clear how much jail time he did.
