SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash.–While you’re waiting for your ballots in the mail, Spokane County Officials are preparing to receive your votes.
Today, county officials tested the machines that scan your ballots and count your votes, to make sure they are accurate.
They ran test ballots through the scanner. Election observers and a representative with the Secretary of State’s office were there to watch.
After the ballots were scanned another machine counted the votes.
Observers were given a sheet of paper with results the machines should have counted.
An election official read the results from the machine and observers checked to make sure they had matching numbers.
“It ensures the accuracy of the tabulators that there’s nothing going on, and it shows the observers, yes, it is tabulating correctly,” said Mike McLaughlin, Spokane County Elections Manager.
This is just one of many tests the county does with these machines.
If officials find an inaccuracy, they have a plan.
“We would investigate it as to why it was inaccurate, you know, and most of the time it’s human error if something going on. The tabulators have been spot on since I’ve been doing this,” said McLaughlin.
Today, this test revealed that the machines are running accurately.
