SPOKANE, Wash. – A man was sentenced to federal prison for robbery affecting commerce and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
34-year-old Brady Baughman was sentenced 10 years followed by five years of supervised release.
According to U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, on February 6, 2022, Baughman attempted to purchase drugs from a Spokane drug trafficking organization using $12,000 in counterfeit currency.
After the sellers declined the sale, Boughman robbed drug couriers entering the stash house and fled with about 16 pounds of methamphetamine and 50,441 fentanyl-laced pills.
Following a high-speed pursuit, during which members of the drug organization fired at Baughman’s vehicle, Baughman abandoned the stolen drugs. Spokane Police Department (SPD) later recovered the drugs nearby.
An arrest warrant was issued, and on August 12, 2022, SPD attempted to stop Baughman on a motorcycle. He fled but crashed, leading to the discovery of a loaded 9mm pistol and additional fentanyl pills.
Baughman later escaped from the hospital while awaiting charges.
After nearly a year as a fugitive, Baughman was arrested on March 28, 2023, with more fentanyl pills found during his arrest.
U.S. Attorney Waldref described Baughman’s actions as dangerous and emphasized the commitment to community safety. David F. Reames of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) highlighted the serious threats posed by drug traffickers like Baughman.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Spokane Police Department, with prosecution led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Van Marter.
