BOISE, Idaho – A new trial date has been set for the man accused of killing four University of Idaho students in 2022.
A Boise judge set Bryan Kohberger’s trial for August 11, 2025.
It was initially set for June of next year, but the trial date was vacated when the case was moved to Ada County.
Kohberger is accused of killing Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle in November 2022.
If convicted, Kohberger faces the death penalty.
That means if he’s found guilty, another phase of the trial begins where each side would call witnesses and present testimony.
The judge estimates the guilt phase of the trial would last from August until November 7th.
If the jury convicts Kohberger, the death penalty phase would start immediately.
Kohberger’s defense team is challenging his eligibility for the death penalty.
A judge will hear arguments on that on November 7 of this year.
