STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. — Gita, a 13-year-old rescue, helped save the life of her owner by leading a Steven’s County Deputy to a small rural cabin.
On Sept. 25, Steven’s County Deputy Wright came across a dog sitting in the middle of a road. After trying to get the dog into his vehicle, he proceeded to check the area residences for the owner.
According to Deputy Wright, he sensed something was wrong and returned to the Gita. This time she ran up a lightly traveled, unmarked path.
Deputy Wright followed and found an 84-year-old man lying on the ground a short distance from the cabin, calling for help.
The elderly man, who had several medical conditions requiring regular medication, had fallen and injured his leg.
He had been there for hours and could have faced serious consequences if not found.
Authorities credit Gita with saving the man’s life that day, highlighting the loyalty and heroism of pets.
Deputy Wright is thanked for his efforts, and Gita is recognized as a true hero.
