SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — A suspected vehicle prowler has been arrested for a string of break-ins at the Antoine Peak trailheads over the past few weeks.
34-year-old Yuriy V. Siriy was arrested Tuesday for multiple charges of identity theft, possession of stolen property, theft, and vehicle prowling.
According to the sheriff’s office, one victim said she hid her purse under the seat of her vehicle that was parked at an Antoine Peak trailhead parking lot on September 15. When she came back from her hike, she found he purse stolen, and her window shattered.
Another victim parked in a different trailhead parking lot of September 19. The second victim noticed a suspicious man in the area. The victim locked her wallet in the glove box, put her purse under her seat, locked her car and took a picture of the suspicious man.
The sheriff’s office said the suspect was talking on his phone while walking behind the victim on the trail before turning off. The victim got a message 40 minutes into the walk saying there was a flagged charge on her credit card. When she got back to her vehicle, her wallet had been stolen.
The second victim told deputies her wallet had cash, credit cards and other pieces of identifying information.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Siriy tried to use a victim’s credit cards that had been stolen from a car at the Antione Peak trailhead.
The sheriff’s office said Siriy is a known thief and multiple-time convicted felon.
He was arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail on September 24. The sheriff’s office said additional charges and arrests related to the break-ins are expected.
