CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington University has officially rebranded as the region’s only polytechnic, enhancing its focus on hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for professional success.
EWU President Shari McMahan emphasized the importance of applied learning across various programs to better equip students for today’s workforce.
The rebranding process began in fall 2023, approved by the Board of Trustees, and involved a workgroup of faculty and staff who researched workforce needs and experiential learning.
This led to the adoption of a polytechnic model reflecting EWU’s commitment to sustainable success.
Key initiatives include:
Partnering with businesses to align academic programs with workforce demands.Offering low in-state tuition while providing access to degrees in high-demand fields.Promoting social mobility, particularly for first-generation college students.Expanding internships and co-op programs to enhance professional skills.Adapting degree offerings in collaboration with regional partners to meet future job needs.
