SPOKANE, Wash. — The woman who died in a hit-and-run crash in Spokane on Monday evening was a chef at Feast World Kitchen and a mother to six children.
The non-profit restaurant posted on social media Wednesday morning, saying “it is with a heavy heart that I share the heartbreaking news that our dear Smaah passed away in a tragic hit-and-run accident.”
The Spokane County Medical Examiner positively identified 46-year-old Smaah Adam as the victim of the fatal crash on West Maxwell Avenue Monday evening. Her cause of death was listed as blunt force injuries.
“Please keep Smaah, her children, and all of us who loved her in your thoughts and prayers,” the post read.
The restaurant, which helps immigrant and refugee families, says Smaah came from Egypt to the United States more than a decade ago, a survivor of violence and war. She had been cooking at the restaurant for more than five years.
“Smaah became like a sister to us in this program, because she was such a bright and joyful personality,” said Feast World Kitchen co-founder Ross Carper. “Getting to know her and her kids has been an honor for us here.”
The restaurant also set up a donation link to help with funeral expenses and to support Smaah’s children. You can make a donation by clicking here.
The Spokane Police Department is still looking for the driver responsible for this fatal crash. The vehicle, a black Ford Flex, likely has notable damage to the front passenger side quarter panel.
If you have any information about this vehicle, call Detective Baldwin at 509-625-4054 and reference incident #2026-20207984.
“It’s been really hard to know that the person responsible for this is still not being held accountable, that they haven’t been able to make an arrest,” Carper said. “Those kids and Smaah deserve closure and accountability.”
