SPOKANE, Wash. — A group of friends has transformed a U-Haul warehouse into a distribution hub for families impacted by the Spokane-area wildfires.
The site opened two weeks ago and since then donations have poured in from community members. Now organizers are trying to spread the word about the relief and asking for another form of support: volunteers.
“We could use a lot of hands sorting and folding and boxing these up. We are palatalizing for now until some of that goes out the door and then we will be able to box tables,” Alicia Doney said, who had the original idea to start the distribution hub.
The distribution site is stocked with essentials ranging from clothing and furniture to diapers and school supplies. Families seeking assistance can pick up as many items as they need for free between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.
Volunteers are needed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
