SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Public Schools unanimously approved an emergency declaration that will allow quicker clean up of the school buildings affected by the Spokane Complex Fire.
This declaration was approved during Wednesday’s Special School Board meeting, and allows the school district to hire contractors to make any necessary repairs to around a dozen schools and other district facilities before the start of the school year. These schools include Indian Trail Elementary, Flett Middle School and Shadle Park High School.
The district said this declaration is necessary to allow all students to start the 2026-27 school year on time.
Thousands of families and staff members in Spokane Public Schools have been impacted by these fires, which have destroyed over 700 homes in north Spokane.
The Mead School District approved a similar declaration Wednesday afternoon.
