SPOKANE, Washington — Firefighting crews made headway Monday in their battle against the Spokane Complex Fire, prompting officials to downgrade evacuation levels for several neighborhoods.
At approximately 2 p.m. on August 10, 2026, fire officials updated evacuation levels for Old Trails Road, Autumn Lane, and Fairview following successful firefighting operations.
However, some Level 3 evacuation zones remain in effect due to ongoing containment operations and hazardous air quality conditions, according to fire officials. All remaining Level 3 areas are closed to the public with no access permitted.
Officials acknowledged the emotional toll on residents. “We understand the extreme anxiety and frustration of everyone who tragically lost their homes due to the catastrophic fires, or are still affected by these closures, but we continue to ask for your patience,” fire officials said in a statement Monday.
Structural hazards pose serious risks
Partially damaged or burned structures have not been structurally inspected and may collapse, according to fire officials. Hazardous materials remain throughout the fire burn areas.
Anyone entering these zones does so at their own risk. Authorities advise residents to use caution, wear personal protective equipment, and have any damaged structures professionally inspected before entering.
Significant work remains
Despite progress made, a large amount of work remains to make Level 3 areas safe for public access, officials said. Residents can check the Official Evacuation Map for current evacuation level information.
All of Spokane County remains at high risk for fire starts.
Authorities cautioned residents to avoid any activity that could cause a spark or ignite a new fire.
