SPOKANE, Wash. — In an update from Incident Command on the Spokane area fires, officials say they’re focusing on remaining heat and hazards.
There was no growth on either of the three fires, and firefighters continue to mop-up to ensure there’s no remaining hot spots.
They add “As containment work wraps up, focus will shift to urban mop up by deploying firefighters with Self-Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBA). This protects firefighters from any hazardous materials that may be in or around damaged structures.”
The current containment percentages are:
-Old Trails Fire – 43%
-Autumn Lane Fire – 61%
-Fairview Fire – 43%
Crews made “exceptional progress” alongside local area firefighters as they continued to focus on improving containment lines and mitigating hazards, including fallen and fire-weakened trees Saturday. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains in effect over the incident. No drone incursions were reported on Saturday.
Firefighters will identity and document all remaining hazards before leaving the area. Hazardous Materials Response Units will conduct comprehensive assessments in the area.
The City of Spokane has completed water testing and is reporting that city-delivered water is safe in areas impacted by fires. Still, they suggest people returning home should flush internal plumbing fixtures to turn over stale water that remains in the pipes.
