SAN FRANCISCO – Gonzaga third baseman Mikey Bell is one step closer to professional baseball after being selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 19th round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday.
Bell becomes the latest Bulldog to hear his name called on draft day, extending Gonzaga’s streak of having at least one player selected in every full MLB Draft since 1999.
The Fresno, California native is coming off another standout season, earning West Coast Conference Player of the Year honors for the second straight year. Bell started all 53 games for the Bulldogs in 2026, batting .378 with 24 doubles, 85 hits, 52 runs scored and 47 RBIs. His 24 doubles ranked fifth in Division I baseball, while his 85 hits were tied for the 25th most in the nation.
Bell also continued to climb Gonzaga’s record books. His career .369 batting average ranks eighth in program history and is the second-highest by a Bulldog since 2000. He also tied school records with three doubles in a game and recorded three separate five-hit performances during his career.
The draft selection carries extra meaning for Bell, a Fresno native who grew up rooting for the Giants. Now, the opportunity is there to begin his professional career with his childhood team if he chooses to sign.
