DEER PARK, Wash. — Aviation enthusiasts and community members will have the opportunity to explore one of our region’s important aviation facilities this Saturday when the Deer Park Fly-In takes to the skies.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Deer Park Airport, offering free admission and parking to visitors of all ages. The fly-in promises a day of activities showcasing the airport’s role in the greater Spokane County community.
The Deer Park Airport was built in 1944 for World War II efforts. Over the decades, the facility has evolved into a strategic air base for seasonal firefighting operations. Beyond its operational importance, the airport stands as a symbol of Deer Park’s community spirit and the area’s connection to aviation.
“We enjoy showcasing our airport to the community. We have some neighbors who say, ‘We didn’t even know there was an airport.’ So now they get to see that there is, and what goes on here,” said Darold Schultz, Deer Park Airport Director.
Attendees will have the chance to view aircraft displays up close, watch aerial demonstrations performed by skilled pilots, and witness a unique flour-bombing contest where pilots compete in a friendly competition.
