SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Indians are inviting community members to roll up their sleeves and make a difference for the Spokane River during the Redband Rally River Cleanup on Thursday.
The event features two sessions. The morning session runs from 10 a.m. to noon at Redband Park, located at 216 N Cedar St in Spokane. The afternoon session takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Islands Trailhead in Spokane Valley.
Participants will gather trash along the banks and trails on the edge of the Spokane River, contributing to habitat restoration efforts for the region’s signature fish, the native redband trout. The cleanup is part of the Spokane Indians’ broader Redband Rally campaign, which honors and raises awareness about the importance of protecting this species and the river ecosystem it depends on.
“As the community’s baseball team, we want to give back,” said Otto Klein, Senior Vice President of the Spokane Indians. “It is important to the Spokane tribe, it is important to all the constituents in this area, and so we want to do our part, and this is one of the ways we can do that.”
The Spokane Riverkeeper, a key partner for the event, will provide all necessary cleaning equipment, including bags, gloves and grabbers. Volunteers are asked to arrive 10 minutes early to each location to allow time for check-in and instructions.
The event is free and open to people of all ages.
