SPOKANE, Wash – A state mobilization team is on the way to Spokane County to help fight a fast-moving wildfire threatening 500 homes.
The Upriver Fire started Tuesday afternoon and quickly ripped through almost 300 acres.
The fire is burning north of Upriver Drive in the Pasadena Park neighborhood. Emergency responders have widened the evacuation area throughout the day, stretching the area from the Spokane River north to Bigelow Gulch and from Thierman on the west all the way to Argonne.
The state has ordered six strike teams to help with the fire, along with air resources in addition to those that have been dropping water and retardent throughout the day.
Fire personnel from every local agency are assisting with the fire.
As of Tuesday at 10 p.m., the fire was 10% contained.
Conditions were ripe for a fast-moving fire, with high winds and low humidity. The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for Tuesday, warning of critical fire danger.
