SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Indians earned a big win, scoring 15 runs on 15 hits, taking on the Vancouver Canadians at Avista Stadium on Tuesday night. Even though the Canadians tried to catch up late in the game, the Indians held them and won 15-11.
The game got off to a great start for Spokane as Ethan Hedges hit a single that brought Max Belyeu home, scoring the first run. Things really took off in the third inning when the Indians added four more runs to the board. One of the big-time RBIs was a two-run home run courtesy of Jack O’Dowd. They didn’t stop there, adding two more runs in the fourth inning to keep the momentum going.
Roynier Hernandez was the star of the show for Spokane, going 2-for-4 with not one, but two home runs, and driving in six runs. The first home run was significant: a two-run shot in the fourth inning that put Spokane up 7-0. Hernandez wasn’t done yet; he came back in the sixth inning and hit a three-run homer, stretching the Indians’ lead to 10-3.
Max Belyeu had a great game, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and four runs scored. Alan Espinal also did his part, getting three hits, including a double and a two-run home run in the eighth inning, which was a big moment in the game. O’Dowd had a solid performance too, finishing with two hits and two RBIs, helping his team out.
In the fifth inning, Vancouver managed to score two runs, and they added one more in the sixth. But it was the eighth inning that really saw them break out, scoring eight runs and making a serious comeback. This was largely thanks to Sam Shaw and Matt Scannell, who both hit three-run home runs during this inning, helping the Canadians narrow the gap to 13-11.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Indians responded with a two-run homer from Espinal, which ultimately gave Spokane a 15-11 lead that would hold as the final score.
Hunter Hammer got the win for Spokane, which improved his record to 3-6. Juan Rivera picked up his fourth save of the season. On the other hand, Vancouver’s Nolan Perry picked up the loss.
Spokane’s win brought their season record to 28-36, while Vancouver’s loss dropped them to 26-38.
