SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – The New York Knicks have at last earned their first NBA Championship since 1973, beating the San Antonio Spurs in five games.
The Knicks won Game 5, 94-90, upending and erasing a double-digit comeback for the fourth time this series.
Jalen Brunson won the NBA Finals MVP with his outstanding performance, highlighted by a 45-point Game 5. He’s the first player since Michael Jordan in 1998 to score that much in an NBA Finals-clinching game on the road.
With New York’s title drought over, the Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks remain the only NBA franchises with a title but no Larry O’Brien trophy (1977, the first year of the ABA-NBA merger).
