SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – The New York Knicks are just two wins away from their first NBA championship in 53 years.
Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, and Karl Anthony-Towns lifted the Knicks to a 105-104 win over the San Antonio Spurs, barely escaping Texas with a win after a missed Victor Wenbanyama go-ahead jumper inside a second to go.
Anthony-Towns held Wenbanyama in check throughout the first half, allowing only seven points, but Wemby scored 22 in the second half, shooting 11-21 from the field.
The Spurs shot better than the Knicks overall, but four more turnovers and half as many offensive rebounds prevented more chances to take control earlier in a dominant New York third and early fourth quarter.
The Knicks are the third team in NBA history to win the first two Finals games on the road, joining Michael Jordan’s 1993 Chicago Bulls and Hakeem Olajuwon’s 1995 Houston Rockets, both of which eventually won their respective series.
Game 3 in Madison Square Garden tips off Monday, June 8, at 5:30 p.m. on ABC.
