PULLMAN, Wash. – The legendary and innovative late Mike Leach earned a spot on the 2027 College Football Hall of Fame ballot, clearing a major next step.
The former Texas Tech, Washington State, and Mississippi State head coach finished his career with a 59.56% winning percentage, 0.4% short of the old barrier, which was changed to be 59.5% last year.
Leach will appear on the ballot open for voting on Monday, and, if he’s posthumously selected, it would be officially announced in January 2027.
The former coach innovated the game with the “Air Raid” style of offense, helping 10 of his 21 seasons lead the FBS in passing yards, including four seasons at WSU.
Leach died at 61 years old in 2022 from heart complications.
