SPOKANE VALLEY — This winter marked the first time the Inland Northwest community had access to a year-round farmers market, transforming the local food landscape.
Scale House Market, located at the Spokane Conservation District’s Quarry Campus, opened just over 10 months ago as Spokane County’s first indoor farmers market. In that short time, the venture has generated more than $1.5 million in revenue and helped support at least 160 local businesses.
The indoor portion of the market represents more than 100 businesses, providing a central location for local farm and food businesses to reach the community throughout the year.
“It really has created something special, you may be picking up one product but it may have the hands of several different vendors and businesses as part of it,” said Brittany Tyler, director of the Scale House Market.
For vendors like Tiffany Cable, owner of The Blissful Whisk bakery and coffee shop, the market has provided significant growth opportunities. Cable has been part of the Scale House Market since the space opened.
“I start at 4 every morning and I bake everything fresh everyday,” Cable said.
Before joining the market, Cable operated a brick-and-mortar location. She says joining Scale House has helped her business grow.
“But now people are coming for everything like getting pastries and coffee as well,” Cable said.
Beyond individual business growth, Tyler said the market has fostered collaboration among local entrepreneurs.
“It has really become this family of people looking to see each other succeed,” Tyler said.
The Scale House Market operates Wednesday through Sunday. It is located at 4422 E 8th Ave in Spokane Valley.
