SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane elementary teacher charged with raping her 10-year-old student has been released from police custody.
According to Washington VINE notifications, Mahayla Benavides bonded out of jail on Tuesday evening.
Benavides is facing child rape and child molestation charges. Police say she sexually assaulted a student multiple times, even videotaping an encounter in a classroom at Stevens Elementary School.
She’s also accused of making explicit videos of herself and showing them to the boy.
Even though she has posted bond, Benavides is still not allowed any contact with minors.
Her trial is set to begin in May.
