SPOKANE, Wash. – Braeden Smith, the third overall and second major Gonzaga men’s basketball player, plans to hit the portal, according to his agency.
Smith, a former Patriot League Player of the Year at Colgate, redshirted the 2024-25 season at GU before starting last season as the starting point guard.
Smith joins Cade Orness and Emmanuel Innocenti, both players who are also entering the portal.
Spanish star Mario Saint-Supery eventually replaced Smith as the lead point guard, and with German freshman Jack Kayil set to come to Spokane this fall, it’s no surprise that Smith will enter the transfer portal.
Smith averaged 5.1 points, 3.6 assists, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.0 steals, and he owned 18 starts in 35 total games for the Zags.
The transfer portal officially opens at 9:00 p.m. tonight, right after the NCAA Men’s National Championship game between Connecticut and Michigan.
