PEND OREILLE COUNTY, Wash. — A woman who had been reported missing out of Spokane has been found dead on a remote dirt road in Pend Oreille County.
According to the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office, the body of 84-year-old Penelope Whitehead was found around noon on Friday on a dirt road in the area of Cedar Creek.
The Sheriff’s Office says Whitehead’s dog was still alive and with her body.
Whitehead had been reported missing out of Spokane. Pend Oreille County dispatch received an alert for her on Thursday evening.
Deputies followed what they believed to be Whitehead’s footprints in the show for about a half mile. The footprints led deputies to Whitehead’s vehicle, which had been stuck in the mud.
Next of kin have been notified and the dog was turned over to a family member.
