SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash – Her dad may have been the longtime basketball coach of the boys team at Colfax High School, but there was no doubt Friday night that Allie Jenkin was blessed by her father’s influence.
On the day Reece Jenkin died from pancreatic cancer, his daughter, a freshman guard, led her team in the first round of the state 2B basketball tournament, scoring 41 of her team’s 61 points.
She scored all the team’s points in the first half.
Allie is the middle child of Reece and Breanne Jenkin.
Reece Jenkin coached the Colfax boys for 18 years. He died Friday, less than three months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Allie’s older brother Adrik will lead the Colfax boys in the first round of the boys 2B tournament Friday night, immediately following his little sister’s incredible performance.
Adrik and Reece were named MVP and Coach of the Year in their division earlier this month.
The Spokesman-Review’s Dave Nichols reports that the school requested “business as usual” with no moments of silence before the games.
The Colfax girls move on to play Wednesday at the Spokane Arena.
